Dr. Kū Kahakalau is an award-winning native Hawaiian educator, researcher, cultural practitioner, grassroots activist, and expert in Hawaiian language, history and culture. For the past 35 years, Dr. Kahakalau has promoted the revitalization of Hawaiian language and culture, hands-on learning in the environment, community sustainability and Hawaiian self-determination in education and beyond through a Pedagogy of Aloha.

Raised in Waipiʻo Valley, ʻIʻini is a 21st century Hawaiian, with a deep understanding of Hawaiian language, culture, values and traditions. A graduate of Kanu o ka ʻĀina NCPCS, ʻIʻini is an innovative bi-lingual educator with hands-on experience in culture-based, place-based and project-based education. A chancellor scholar and graduate of UH Hilo, ʻIʻini created her own degree combining Computer Science, Business E-Commerce and Hawaiian Language and Studies. She is an independent thinker with strong leadership, technology and organizational skills and dedication to serving the community.
